SpringBoot start

  • OS: macOS Sierra
  • IDE: Intellij

In my experience as a programmer I have noticed a lot of newer programmers are intimidated by Java Spring. But its easier than you think, especially with the emergence of Spring Boot.

Head over to https://start.spring.io/. This is the spring initializer website to help you get started as fast as possible. Choose a group and artifact name and choose gradle as your build tool. This option can be found at the top of the page. Download the project to anywhere you like and unzip it. My projects looks like this on the desktop. I changed the directory name from demo to springboottutorial.

Now open IntelliJ and import the directory as a gradle project. You dont have to have gradle downloaded because the gradlew wrapper in the project will download it for you.

Your project should look like the image below when it is imported.

In the SpringboottutorialApllication class file you should see a code snippet like below.

Now to run our app we simply right click on the SpringboottutorialApllication class file and click Run ‘Springboottuto…main()’.

And just like that we have a spring boot app up and running. See how easy that was!
